Information technology is an exciting and evolving field that offers many varied career opportunities. As Information play an ever-greater role in people’s daily lives in areas as diverse as education, business, medicine, and news and entertainment, the demand for people with technology expertise is also on the rise. The bachelor’s degree in Information Technology is a popular choice for careers in many different areas, such as software development, computational science, networking, and telecommunications.

The Department of Information Technology, established in 1995 at the Sardar Patel College of Engineering, as an unaided wing was renamed as Sardar Patel Institute of Technology in 2005. Sardar Patel Institute of Technology offers a B.E. degree in Information Technology. This degree provides students with excellent preparation both for graduate study in Information Technology and for employment as an IT professional. Graduates of our department have been recruited by major financial service companies such as Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, Barclays and JP Morgan Chase. Our other major recruiters include Microsoft, Nvidia, SAP, IBM, Diebold, i-flex Solutions, Mastek, Cisco, Amdocs to name a few. Students are also recruited for internship in the above said companies.

The laboratories in the department have the latest machine configurations to enable the students perform the experiments with ease. There are 8 laboratories including a project and development laboratory where higher semester students can design and implement their projects. Currently, our labs are equipped with more than 150 PCs all of which are interconnected with a high-speed local area network, with full access to the Internet. We have some proprietary software and encourage the students to use the open source tools if available. A departmental library stocked with well chosen books caters to the reference needs of the Faculty as well as students.

To provide value-added inputs and exposure to industry, a departmental students’ association ITSA has been instituted. Students conduct various workshops for technical training through ITSA and also participate in various hackathons. Our alumni take great pride in conducting technical sessions for the juniors. Our final year students are also enthusiastic in conducting sessions for juniors and we encourage them by giving teaching assistant certificates.

The department also encourages entrepreneurship cell activities for students to learn fundamentals of business and to build their own startups. Faculties of our department are trained by NEN (National Entrepreneurship Network) in kick starting entrepreneurship, mentoring entrepreneurs and make business plans.
